When they opened their first store in 1966, they sold 12 pairs of shoes on their opening day. The customers returned to pick up their shoes and the rest is history. Initially, it was skateboarders who liked the Vans brand for their sticky soles and flexible tops, making it enjoyable and easy to ride a skateboard, but soon a lot of people discovered that these shoes are perfect for all kinds of activities, and low cost enough to purchase a pair for every occasion. Vans started off with a base model, but today there are hundreds of styles and patterns to choose from.
